During a time of transition within the United States, the USA cowboy is a social, custom, and folkway foundation for establish value systems and ethics. In a world where business ethics is focused on the “me business first” concept rather than the foundation of the reason for commerce: to provide a functional system to meet the economic needs of the family and individuals through food, shelter, and clothing. These, being the requirement foundation of the structure of any society, including the added benefits of safety and human happiness through relationships may be best be illustrated through the study of the USA cowboy. This is the cowboy (and their family, including cowgirls) that are directly or indirectly receive a major portion of their livelihood through working with cattle with the horse as the principal working tool. The USA Cowboy is interested in researching and publishing the results of information derived from direct observation and contribution by those living and working within the contemporary life associated with this definition of “cowboy”. Only cowboys within the USA (not gauchos from Argentina, for example) are included. Ethics and cultural responsibility are researched and described for review and application to the USA. For the above reason, recreation riding, and the horse that is not directly involved with ranching (the inclusion of agriculture for feed) or the cattle associated with this study. The sheep cowboy (if so associated), may also be included within this definition. Those individuals that have their current “roots” in cattle ranching, that are involved in education of new generations of cowboys, those apprentices are also included, but are referenced only as a study of the changes of values or ethics as they are progressively exposed to the trade skills of the cowboy. Veterinarians, furriers, and others that provide exclusive services to the cowboy are included within the study. Those cowboys that rely on machines, other than horses such as land rovers and helicopters, are excluded from this website. Support information that is of interest to the cowboy and the general public is carried on this website. Information resources that are deemed of noteworthy value to promotion of the skills of the cowboy and the horse is included. Such resources may be freely linked from this website on request to the editor, provided that the cowboy community, as per definition, has expressed approval of the worthiness of the information or tool resources. In addition to the printed magazine, support publication is also planned for CD, DVD and Kindle formats. A Blog for information is available at www.USAcowboyBlog.com . General classified information may be posted from the cowboy community without fee upon submission to the publisher provided it has significant interest to the cowboy community or of the secondary tourism industry that has public education interest of the current working life of the USA cowboy.
